michaeldick.net Web Design

I was tasked with designing a professional website for Toronto academic Michael Dick in 2011. While much of my work is aesthetic-heavy, my challenge in this project was to appease the traditionally conservative stylings of an academic web space and balance it with beautiful design. More specifically, my goals were to make key information dominant and easy to find without pages suffering from information overload. Below you can find the end result.

Visual overview of the website. A total of four images were used throughout, making the site accessible to blind readers and users with slower connections.

The sidebar was the main interface element in this design. General links, contact information, and the search box are shown before any other information with the goal to create easy navigation.

The footer brings back the main navigation, as well as “lesser links.” Because this is an academic website, Creative Commons symbols were used in place of a traditional copyright disclaimer.
