Image Arts Union Logo

August 31, 2011

An updated logo for the Image Arts Course Union at Ryerson University. The piece uses symbols laid out in a symmetrical arrangement to equalize the three streams the program offers: Photography, Film, and New Media.

IMA Logo T-Shirt

The logo was printed on t-shirts for the Image Arts Social Orientation 2011, which hosted almost 200 students and 30 orientation leaders.

The three symbols I chose each draw parallels to their respective program: a zoom lens for Photography, a film reel canister for Film, and a power button for New Media. Each are equal in size and shape, and are positionally balanced in a downward pyramid to communicate the equality of the three streams.

Process Work:

Old version of the logo

An older iteration of the logo. I was playing with the idea of integrating the RGB colour space as a metaphor for the logo. The power button was less solid, and the film reel canister received a much needed update.

Old version of the logo #2

Another slighter older iteration of the logo. Choosing the best symbol to represent New Media was one of my biggest challenges — in this version you can see I tried using a web cam, but ultimately decided it was too vague.
